A Visit with Maris Wicks

A Visit with Maris Wicks
Posted on 10/15/2015

We were thrilled to meet the awesome, adept, and animated artist & author Maris Wicks! A few classes from Amigos, Baldwin, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Kennedy-Longfellow, and Morse took a jaunt over to Cambridge Public Library earlier this month to hear Maris talk about her brand new book‚ Human Body Theater. Maris inspired all of us as she talked about how she became a professional illustrator/author and then showed us her new book, complete with amazing visuals and an incredibly animated read-aloud!

Here are a few of our favorite Maris quotes from her visit:

  • "When stuff seems hard, it's okay."
  • "I wish I had learned to ask for help earlier." (as a student)
  • Bodies/systems: "It's not magic, it's science; but it feels like magic!"
  • "Even if information is boring, if someone tells it to you in a way that is exciting it sticks more."
  • Bodies: "Totally awesome machines made of me!"

See the slideshow above for a sneak peek from Maris's visit. Want to learn more about Maris? Take a look at her blog.

Many thanks to Maris and Cambridge Public Library for such a wonderful day!
