Community Update: Dec. 7, 2015

The following is a message from City Manager Richard Rossi, Superintendent of Schools Jeff Young, and Police Commissioner Robert Haas:

Today we requested and received reports from our CPS principals regarding conditions in the schools. Every school reported that student attendance was back to normal and that much of the fear that affected our schools last week was beginning to dissipate. All members of the community have played an important role in working through the challenges we all have faced.

On Tuesday, December 8, the Cambridge Police Department will assign officers to be present all day at the three buildings that were named in the recent threat: the Amigos School, the Putnam Avenue Upper School/Kennedy-Longfellow building, and the Vassal Lane Upper School/Tobin Montessori building. Police officers will make frequent stops at all other school buildings during the course of the day. We expect normal activities, including outdoor recess and scheduled field trips, to occur at all schools on Tuesday. We also are requesting that all students and staff continue to use the front door for entering all school buildings in the morning.

As always, we ask you to remain vigilant and report anything unusual to the Police Department by calling 911 for an emergency or 617-349-3300 for non-emergency messages. Thank you for your continuing support.
