Families of students in Grades 6-8 who satisfy the age, residency, and health requirements register for school by completing the JK-8 Registration form and submitting it in person along with all required forms and documents to the Family Resource Center. Applications to enroll during the current school year are processed on a daily basis, and students can usually begin attending school within 2-5 days of their registration being completed.
On your registration form, new families may prioritize their first, second, and third choice of school. However, limited seats are available and families entering mid-year may find that they do not have a choice of school. Students applying to the Amigos School must also take a language test to ensure that they meet proficiency requirements in both English and Spanish. We recommend that families contact the Family Resource Center to learn which schools have openings for which your child would be eligible. New registrations for the following September are accepted starting in January. If you are registering your child to enroll next September, there will be very limited seats available. Registrations from students entering 7th and 8th grade which are received by May 31 will be included in the CPS Upper School Lottery in order to maximize the opportunity for parent choice. New registrations received after May 31, and registrations received for students entering 6th Grade, will be offered a seat at the school where there are seats available and the student’s SES category is under-represented, up to a total enrollment of 100.
We know that waiting for a school assignment can create some anxiety for families who are already going through a great deal of change and transition. Please know that we will not forget about your child, and that we will be able to offer a placement before school begins. Reassure your student that he or she will be going to a great school, and explore the CPS website to provide a positive picture of several different schools where they may be assigned. If you have any questions or would like an update on the status of your child’s application, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
