Emily Dexter

EMILY R. DEXTER serving her second term on the Cambridge School Committee, has worked in the field of education, literacy, and child development for almost three decades. She began her career as a language specialist at the Marie Philip School for the Deaf in Framingham, where she worked with teachers to create language and literacy-rich classrooms and curricula. She has a doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and has worked as a literacy researcher and statistician at Harvard and Lesley University. Before joining the School Committee, Dr. Dexter served on the Citywide School Advisory Group (CSAG), the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Council, and the citywide STEM/STEAM Working Group. Currently she is on the board of Cambridge Community Services, which runs the City Links program for immigrant high school students. She and her husband, Armond Cohen, have two daughters, Eliza and Leah Cohen, both of whom attended Cambridge Public Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. Originally from Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Dexter has lived in Cambridge for 27 years.
