Getting to School Really Matters!

kids getting off busDid you know that missing school – even in the early grades – has a negative impact on learning over time? Research demonstrates that students who are chronically absent (missing more than 10% of school days) have more struggles with learning to read in the early grades, and are more likely to experience failure and even to drop out of high school.

CPS wants to work with families to make sure students will be absent as infrequently as possible. Of course, we encourage families to keep students home when they are sick. We also recognize that families travel to their home countries and have opportunities to experience sabbaticals--which will also enrich student learning.

However, if your family is going through a difficult time that is making it hard for your student to get to school on time, please know that school staff members are here to help. Please contact your family liaison, your child’s teacher, or the Principal and let them know that you want to get your child to school on time -- but need their help. We are here for you!
