Staff Member wavingThe CPS Office of Human Resources and CEA Educators of Color Committee are pleased to announce the launch of Employee Resource Groups in CPS. A kick-off event to support the formation and planning of these volunteer-driven groups will take place at Putnam Avenue Upper School on May 23 from 3:15 - 5PM. See flyer >>

Sometimes referred to as Affinity Groups, Employee Resource Groups foster professional development and collegial support among individuals who share a particular background, interest, or issue. Most commonly, these groups will form around shared identities such as women, parents, people of color, LGBTQ, veterans, and people with disabilities.

Over the years, individual schools have benefited from school-based affinity groups, particularly at the high school. However, this Kick-Off event marks the beginning of greater investment in facilitating the formation of these groups at the district level. The Kick-Off event ongoing assistance will be available from the CEA Educators of Color Committee and from CPS Program Manager for Diversity Development Ramon De Jesus.

Any employee who is not an administrator may join an Employee Resource Group. Among the benefits of participating:
  • Connecting with others with similar needs in order to help push innovation, both internally and externally
  • Providing increased support for professional development and leadership opportunities
  • Expanding recruitment efforts to be more inclusive
  • Feeling part of a community with others who understand various backgrounds and challenges
The Kick-Off event is for all staff members within our educational community except for administrators. A subsequent event for administrators is planned for early Fall 2018. If you have any questions about the Kick-Off, please email Ramon De Jesus at [email protected] or CEA President Daniel Monahan at [email protected].

Creation of Employee Resource Groups emerges out of Objective 1 of the CPS District Plan: Equity and Access. Specifically, this work was outlined under Strategic Initiative 1.3 - Implement the Dynamic Diversity program to recruit, hire, and retain a CPS workforce that reflects the diversity of Cambridge.
