School Committee Waives School Meal Balances for All Students
Posted on 07/23/2020
The School Committee has approved a motion to waive all outstanding negative school meal balances for Cambridge Public School families. All accumulated negative balances will be wiped clean by the end of July 2020 as a result of widespread negative hardship brought about by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This move by the School Committee and Superintendent Salim allows Cambridge families to start fresh for the school year. However, Food & Nutrition Services stresses the importance of submitting a Free & Reduced Price Meal Application every school year to ensure they receive all eligible benefits and prevent future negative balances.

Benefits of qualifying for free and reduced-price school meals include:
  • Helps your family save time and money
  • Future pandemic EBT funding eligibility
  • MBTA Student Charlie Card access at no or discounted fare for CRLS students
  • Reduced internet service cost with the Comcast Internet Essentials program for qualifying families
  • Access to a multitude of Cambridge summer programs and events for children at a reduced cost
