Dear CPS Community,

I am looking forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday, and greeting our incoming Kindergarteners next Thursday!

As many in our community get ready to put their best foot forward, we would like to share some reminders and updates that may be useful to you in this newsletter. The most important reminder, I believe, is to keep in mind how much influence we adults can have in the lives of our students.

If you think back to your elementary, middle or high school years, I am sure there are at least one or two adults who made a positive difference in the path your life took. You may also remember some who made you feel misunderstood or underestimated.

We never know what messages our students will hold onto, and so I encourage you to start this year with a fresh commitment to affirming the potential of your children and students -- and of all children and students. Regardless of how you say it, what I hope they hear from us is, "We have high expectations of you and we know you can do it."

For the part you play in affirming, supporting, and warmly challenging our students, I thank you. Enjoy your Labor Day weekend -- I look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Sincerely,

Kenneth N. Salim, Ed.D.
