Anti-Racism Statement

Develop anti-racism & racial equity statement

Background
In 2018-19, CPS worked with the Disruptive Education Equity Project (DEEP) to provide training to CPS educators, administrators, and school committee members on issues of racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion. That work led to the development of a definition of equity and racial equity for CPS that was subsequently adopted by the School Committee.

February 2020 Update
Girl SmilingCPS is recruiting youth, families, educators, and partners to develop the statement and propose ways that it can be integrated into ongoing practice to serve as a living compass for CPS.

If you are interested in being part of this work, please fill out this form, which includes potential meeting dates for three, two-hour meetings in March and April 2020. Compensation, child care and light refreshments or meals will be provided.

Action Plan

  •  Recruit youth, educators and partners to build on our equity definition and the comments, experiences and perspectives shared by 200+ community members over the course of the BEB project, and develop an anti-racism and racial equity statement and make recommendations on how it should be used (February 2020)
  • Develop a draft statement (March - April 2020)
  • Gather feedback on this draft from CPS youth, families, educators, staff, and administrators. (April 2020)
  • As part of District Planning process, share proposed statement with the School Committee for discussion and adoption, to provide common language and expectations for all CPS community members and be used regularly in decision-making and practice. (Spring 2020)
  • Develop plan for publicizing and using the statement (Summer 2020)
  • Publicize statement, and support staff and student engagement through trainings and discussion. (Fall 2020)
