Honk!
Some Tobin kids, parents, and grandparents marched in the Honk! Parade as part of the Cambridge Wildlife group, which started out as a Tobin group several years ago and has expanded. We're so lucky to have Fresh Pond Reservation nearby our school, and it was fun to celebrate with the whole city! Whom do you see under that monarch caterpillar puppet?
Book + Soup
Room 286 has been doing an author study of Lois Ehlert. As part of our study, we read "Growing Vegetable Soup" and then made soup. It was delicious!
Family Breakfast
Room 283 had a family breakfast last week. All the parents stopped by, enjoyed breakfast treats and of course were delighted to hear all the children singing their favorite classroom songs!
Growth Mindset: "Fine!!!"
Parents! Instead of asking, "How was your day?" Ask your child, "What is something challenging you worked on today?" Or just ask about one specific area, such as, "What did you work on in Math today?" As a follow up, ask, "Did you feel like it was challenging?"
DID YOU KNOW? Research shows that, over time, students who are encouraged to work through a challenge far outperform their peers who are praised for being "smart." Think EFFORT, not OUTCOME. So remember, instead of "Good job!" you can always say, "NICE EFFORT!"
Spotlight on Yulia Goncharov
This week, we learn more about our super Children's House art teacher in a Q&A! Read on >>
Second Step
In this photo, School Adjustment Councilor Ian Kenney is presenting Second Step program in Room 283. Mr. Kenney had introduced his special guest, a small puppy, who needed to learn how to calm down and to control his body. The students taught puppy how to count down to calm and to use kind words. Second Step is a classroom-based program that supports social development and problem-solving skills.
Halloween
Please DO NOT have your children wear their Halloween costumes to school! Community Schools will be having a Halloween Party after school on October 30th. More info will follow.
