Reflections from Katie
We have continued to examine and refine the way we are reporting to families on student progress. Last year we started using a Habits of Mind target with descriptors to reflect student progress. Hear more from Katie >>

Register for Kindergarten in January
Was your child born between September 1, 2010-March 31, 2012? Your child can go to public school in September 2016! Please register your child for Kindergarten during the month of January – this is when you will have the most choice in where your child will go to school. You may register late, but after January, you may not be able to choose a school.

When you register, please bring:
–Your child’s birth certificate or passport
–Parent/guardian ID or passport
–Your child’s immunization record (shots)
–A lease, deed, or notarized letter from your landlord
–Utility bill (gas, cable, electric) dated within the past 30 days

School Based Registration for Sibling Families: Don’t miss this opportunity – if you currently have an older child attending this school, you can receive “sibling preference” but only if you apply during the January lottery. To make the process easier, JK/K families are able to submit an application at C’port School, rather than at the Family Resource Center. The process is also simplified for sibling families who register at the school level.

Download the application online by sending an email to [email protected] to get started, or request an application from [email protected] or call 617.349.6587 x 111 to request a Sibling Registration or see me at school. Sibling families are encouraged to complete the process in person at the C’port School by Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

Spotlight on Our Specialists
This is the first in our series of spotlights on our specialists! This week, we sat down with Renee Georgette, one of our Learning Disabilities (LD) Specialists. Here's what we learned >>

Executive Functioning – or Exploring the Brain – in Children
Please join school counselor Gail Nunes and fellow parents and caregivers for conversations about Exploring the Brain and Executive Function. During these meetings we will share information and learn from each other, considering topics such as focusing and attention, whole body listening, eye contact, body in space, screen time, and getting our kids to do what they need to do. We will meet approximately monthly on a Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30AM in the family conference room. Refreshments will be served in the library, so grab a cup of coffee, and join us! For more information, please contact Gail Nunes at [email protected], Natalie Rodriguez at [email protected], or Laura Gross at [email protected].

BE SCREENWISE
Know the recommendations! The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommends that parents establish “screen-free” zones at home by making sure there are no televisions, computers, or video games in children’s bedrooms, and by turning off the TV during dinner.
