Reflections from Katie, the Principal
Reflecting on what is happening at school these days is a bit challenging in the face of what is happening in the world these days. As I sit down to write these reflections, I keep trying to figure out what to say about the events of the past few weeks, and I really have no words. Except perhaps to say thank you. There were so many hugs, looks of understanding, expressions of gratitude that came our way this past week, and those were very meaningful. But I think the most powerful thing I can do is keep our focus on the amazing teaching and learning that is happening at our school every day. So, I want to talk about math... Remember to Register for Kindergarten
Was your child born between September 1, 2010 and March 31, 2012? Your child can go to public school in September 2016! Please register your child for Kindergarten during the month of January – this is when you will have the most choice in where your child will go to school. You may register late, but after January, you may not be able to choose a school. Download the application online by emailing [email protected] to get started, or request a sibling application from Shirley Harvey (in person at C'port, [email protected], or 617.349.6587 x111). Sibling families are encouraged to complete the process in person at C’port by Wed., Jan. 6, 2016.

MATH CLUB @ CPORT
Starting Thurs., Dec. 10, we will be running two Crazy 8s math clubs (K-2 and 3-5) on Thursdays, after school. These clubs are designed to make math engaging and fun for ALL kids, and are especially good for kids who may not be feeling very good about math.

WINTER WARMTH
Thanks so much for participating in our first Winter Warmth Event. It was a super sunny reflection of Cambridgeport's community spirit and generosity. Together we helped each other stay toasty this season, and we helped many others; we had so many donations that we were able to bring extra winter gear both to the Children's Clothing Exchange at Roosevelt Towers Housing Complex down the street (which is an excellent resource if you missed the event) and to a Cambridge shipment of clothing and goods going to Syrian refugees. Leftover cookies went to the teachers for spreading some of the most necessary warmth of all. Winter's ferocity pales next to the warm glow of this school.
