Help Needed:
Be a Compost Lunch Buddy!
We need volunteer help to guide students to dispose of their trash properly. We have
been reprimanded for having too much trash in our compost, which puts us at risk
of having the composting taken away. Yikes! Our planet depends on us to take care of
our waste. Lunch Buddies are needed from 10:55AM-12:30PM. Volunteers will get to
wear latex gloves and guide students to place their waste in the proper bins. It’s a super fun time, and volunteers get to have lunch with some amazing Tobin kids.
Goals
–To teach kids how to take care of their trash properly and clean up after
themselves.
–Reduce the amount of trash that our school produces.
–Interact with students and create a safe and fun lunchtime environment.
Specifications
All volunteers must be have their CORI background check form completed and approved
prior to participating in the Lunch Buddy Program. Please check in at the Main Office
before starting a volunteer shift.

Winter/Holiday Potluck Breakfast
Room 283 invited all the families to join them for a Winter/holiday potluck breakfast The children sang songs, much to the delight of the families and enjoyed special treats. The students also spent a lot of time decorating the classroom for the special event!
Season of Peace
Rooms 283 and 287 presented "A Season of Peace" at the assembly on December 16th. We sang songs about peace and about the seasons. Students practiced dancing like snowflakes and chose snowflakes, peace doves, and snow streamers as their props. Everyone worked very hard and felt happy with their performance.
Nutcracker Fun
Students in Room 279 and 211 had the wonderful opportunity to experience the Jose Mateo Ballet timeless production of the Nutcracker. From dancing fairies to the children who play the mice the energy was felt throughout the audience. Children were also excited when the snow began falling and the fog appeared. This show makes a high quality dance education accessible to everyone and allows children to dream of such adventures for themselves. School Committee member Fred Fantini joined us for this festive occasion.
A Special Visitor
Room 283 had a special visitor come to the school before the break. Prahlad's sister, Lalita, came by and showed the students how to sketch pictures. We really have some talented artists in room 283! Thank you, Lalita!

PARENT ED CORNER
Create an Ordered Environment
To make things accessible to your young child:
Put healthy snacks and foods on a low pantry shelf so your child can help himself.
TIP OF THE WEEK
Getting adequate rest every day helps you learn, grow, and stay healthy. It also increases concentration and a feeling of well-being.
ART & SCIENCE IN ONE
On January 26 and February 1, I will hold on-site registration for new or returning Art & Science in One volunteers at Tobin, in the main office, from 12-2PM. If there are any parents (or grandparents or others) who would like more info about volunteering as a one-to-one mentor in this hands-on, outdoor, observational drawing program, please ask them to contact me directly. A firm commitment to the program’s sessions, which are on Fridays from 11:30 to 1:30 beginning in April, is required. Training is provided by Cambridge School Volunteers.
