Pay It Forward!
Room 204 pays it forward! Last Friday the entire staff, including the Upper School staff were surprised to leave school and find that our cars were cleared of the snow! Thanks to the students (and Ms. Jaime and Mr. Joey) in room 206 who were happy to do a little community service. You guys are the BEST!

Hibernation
Room 283 students have been learning about hibernation and how animals survive during cold winter months. As a part of their research, the children made hedgehog habitats, and the display of their models can be found in the hall next to Room 283.

Heads Up!
Book Fair is the week after vacation. If you don't remember - our library collection is basically inaccessible with the book fair racks covering our books or furniture moved in front of the book shelves. So as you plan your lessons for the weeks after vacation, make sure you get the books you need as soon as we get back.

Volunteers Needed
Hello Tobinites! On 15 March, we will be hosting our annual Staff Appreciation lunch in the cafeteria starting at 1PM. I am looking for as many people as possible to bring in a dish that serves 6 to 8 adults. Dishes can be a salad, main dish, or dessert. If you would let me know what you are thinking of bringing, it would be great. I also need about 6 to 10 volunteers to help decorate the cafeteria (starting after VLUS has finished their lunch schedule), running dishes out to the serving tables, and clean up. Lunch will be finished by 2.15 PM. Thank you! –Joanna Fischer ([email protected])

Lend a Quick Hand!
Annie Gladfelter, one of our Lower El paraprofessionals, is looking for help from our families in completing her master's capstone project. She is conducting a needs-assessment on play and after-school programming for elementary-age children using a survey format. If willing to help Annie, please go to the link to take her survey. The information is anonymous and will only take 5 minutes to complete. Thank you!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
The smile is the shortest distance between two persons.
–Victor Borge

TIP OF THE WEEK
Family Book Club! Try reading the same book as your older reader so that you can share the experience. Talk with your reader about what is happening in the book and what your thoughts are. Discussing characters, plots, predictions and opinions are great ways to share the love of reading with your child!

PARENT ED CORNER
Promote Concentration
The ability to focus and concentrate is an important skill for learning. You can help develop your child’s concentration by observing what sparks her interest. Set her up with the means and materials to explore it, and let her work without interruption. While your child’s work environment should be free of distraction, it doesn’t have to be away from family activity. Some children prefer working at the kitchen table or reading in a cozy corner of the living room to holing up in a bedroom or study. Observe your child’s response to various environments, ask questions, and make adjustments as needed.
