All-State!
On Saturday, March 12th, three of our Upper Elementary students – Emi, Korbinian and Avery – performed at the Seaport Hotel in Boston as part of the All-State Treble Chorus. These students auditioned to be part this chorus and committed to lots of rehearsals! And it paid off! The performance was amazing, and it was an experience they will not soon forget! Just ask Jaime and Joey, who were honored to attend the event.
Many thanks to Mr. Reynolds, who helped prepare students at the school level. Hopefully Emi, Korbinian, and Avery will inspire more Tobin students to audition next year!

Pi Day!
By Shadman
In room 216, our class celebrated Pi Day. The class started by reading with a book named "Sir Cumference and the First Round Table." This book was all about how circumference, radius and diameter were discovered. We then had a lesson on what the radius, diameter and circumference of circles is. Then the class was able to measure various sized circles in our classroom. We measured tables, cups, materials, rugs etc. What we found was that no matter what size circle we measured, there are three diameters, plus a little extra in every circumference. Our teacher told us that ancient people discovered this long ago and that the little more is equal to 1/7th of the diameter. This calculated out is 3.14..... which is the number for Pi! After all of our work, our teacher gave us a treat: apple pie!
More Pi Day Fun
On March 14th (3.14), Head Chef Paul helped us celebrate math with his "Pi" shirt. What is "Pi" you ask? "Pi" is the value of a circle's circumference divided by its diameter, which always comes out to 3.14159265358979323846... (the digits go on forever without repeating). This value is represented by the lowercase Greek letter called "pi" that looks like this: π . Thanks Chef Paul! Do you think next year on 3.14 we can do pi math on actual PIE? Yum!
Ballroom Dancing
The Annual Ballroom Dancing extravaganza took place on Monday, March 14th. All of Upper Elementary participated in the Ballroom Dance curriculum and were able to participate in this event. All the dancers got all dressed up and what a show they put on for their families! They danced the Tango....the waltz...the merengue etc. The evening ended with dance "Cotton I Joe" with our very own Jaime jumping in with all the students and showing her stuff! Everyone had so much fun!
Restorative Justice through Children's Puppet Theatre
On Monday, March 14th, Maggie Whalen of Magpie Puppet Theatre brought her talents to our Children’s House students. By singing some sweet songs, Ms. Maggie and the students were able to “wake up” the puppets to perform Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Hear more >>
