Mindfulness
At this month’s gathering of Tobin Mindful Parents, we started as always with a few minutes for coffee, refreshments, settling in and introductions. Because Room 129 has plenty of child-friendly features, young siblings who come can play throughout the meeting and help provide a realistic backdrop against which we work to acquire realistic Mindfulness techniques for everyday life.
On March 31 we covered:
–Benefits of Mindfulness
–Centering Breaths
–3-Minute Listening Practice
–“4-7-8” Breathing Technique (inhale for the count of 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8)
–A 15-Minute Guided Lovingkindness (calm.com) practice (our most ambitious yet!)
–Feedback and discussion
–Final 4-7-8 breath to finish
Next Meeting:
Thursday, May 5th | 8AM
Room 129; coffee & refreshments provided; CHILDREN WELCOME. Hope to see you there, but first, remember to S.T.O.P! AKA:
STOP.
TAKE A BREATH.
OBSERVE.
PROCEED.
Voila! Congratulations, you have just given your brain one Mindfulness vitamin. Hope to see you May 5th!

Spotted around Tobin...
Children in room 286 are studying about the human body. As you can see, you can tell the students learned all about the brain, heart and lungs!
The mathematicians of Room 210 are measuring! 1st graders measure an object with two different things (non-standard units). A glue is 1 and a half batteries long, and it is also 5 and a half pennies long. 2nd graders measure an object with a non-standard unit and with a ruler. The glue stick that is 5 and a half pennies long is also 3 inches long. 3rd graders measure an object and calculate its area with multiplication. A floor tile measures 12 inches in length and 12 inches in width. 12 x 12 = 144, so the floor tile has an area of 144 square inches.
Prahlad Bellach and Abdulazize Seid are reading a story to their friends in Room 283. Story Time has always been a favorite activity!
Ella Netburn, the Room 283 student teacher from Lesley University, is reading to the students.
Joey and Jaime got into the fun on Mad Dress Day! Everyone got to dress up in their favorite sports team colors!
