Emily Arnold McCully’s appearance at the Haggerty Library was an opportunity for students and adults to say, “Thank you for your wonderful stories!” McCully is the Caldecott Medalist author/illustrator of Mirette on the High Wire. Mirette will forever be walking the highwire on the mural leading up to the library!

First Grade
First graders have recently come home with another volume of My First Grade Music Book. In this book, they demonstrate the ability to read and write two pitches: SO and MI. Ask your child to teach you!
Second Grade
Second graders have also recently come home with a second volume of My Second Grade Music Book. They have been working on the new rhythm (ta-a). Ask students to show you how they read and write SO, MI, LA and a number of rhythms!
Haggerty Chorus Travels to Perform
On Wednesday night, April 13, the Haggerty Chorus was invited to perform in Newton at a Choral Invitational. The goal? To perform for, and listen to, choirs from a variety of other schools in a friendly setting. No adjudication, no medals- just great music from a variety of groups! Read more >>
Library Corner: Kindergarten
Kindergarteners watched pieces of the BBC Children of the Rainforest videos and People of the Rainforest (Schlessinger Video Productions) to learn about the people who live in the rainforests of the world. This unit was to support the project based learning they are doing in their classrooms.

What was going on in Boston on the day the Declaration of Independence was signed? Ask your fifth grader. Professor Jane Kamensky, of Harvard’s history department shared what we can learn about this important time in history from reading a primary source - The New England Chronicle from July 11, 1776.

Giants of Science
