Reflections from Katie
A few weeks ago, when it was finally time to open the playground after way too many months of waiting, I started to wonder what rules would need to be in place for safety and comfort. I decided that instead of setting out rules ahead of time, I would ask... Hear more >>

A Goodbye...
Hello Cambridgeport Families:

It is hard to say goodbye. My youngest daughter and I came to Cambridgeport School when she was a Junior Kindergartener. Now, she’s 25 years old. She’s graduated from Cambridgeport School, Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School, and Columbia University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

I am leaving you with some of the most caring, dedicated, and motivated teachers you’ll ever find, and a principal, Katie Charner-Laird, who is in every way truly a cream of the crop educator: thoughtful, knowledgeable, tireless, and a dogged advocate for all our students at all times. I’m also leaving you in the very capable hands of Kristen Emack who is our new Family Liaison.

Thank you for helping to create and continue the kind of community that’s here at Cambridgeport School. I’m privileged to have been a part of this community from which I’ve learned a lot.

It’s hard to say goodbye, but it's exciting as I look forward to, among other things, spending more time with my granddaughter Jada. We look forward to competing against the summer sun, again this year, with our favorite dessert, an overflowing Toscannini’s Grapenut ice cream cone. We did a pretty good job last year, rescuing every drop with a quick lick before the ice cream ran in rivulets down the side of the cone and had a chance to irretrievably splat to the pavement. We won! My last day is also the last day of school: Wednesday, June 22nd.

–Shirley Harvey, Family Liaison

#NotEvenForAMinute
As temperatures rise, please help us spread the word to parents and caregivers that child hot car deaths are a real danger and can happen to anyone. Nearly 700 children in the U.S. have died from heatstroke in cars since 1998. More than half were forgotten by a caregiver. The good news is that we can prevent these tragedies by getting out the word about the threat as well as tips and habits for tired and frazzled parents and caregivers to be sure their kids are safe in and around cars. That is why we have re-launched our #NotEvenForAMinute campaign, with a ton of great supporting graphics and reminders. Learn more:
