Water Works Day
Monday was a beautiful day to attend the Annual Water Works Day at the Water Department at Fresh pond. We, as well as other schools throughout the city, were invited to come by... see a magic show.... hop on a fire truck.... fix a water main break and enjoy a hot dog while sitting on the grass! Thank you to Cambridge Water Department for planning an amazing day for us!
Language Days
Over the past several months the Tobin School has been having language days on Friday mornings. Each week, the Tobin School Pledge is said in a different language. Last week, John and Lennox said the pledge in Kreyol. During language days, many staff members wear name tags with the language of the week. Pictured on right is Ms. Jessica, School Librarian, with her nametag written in Kreyol.
Staff Kickball Game
On Wednesday afternoon, our "wellness committee" put together a staff kick ball game. Jaime finished up the staff meeting a little bit early, so we could enjoy a nice lunch on the patio. After we finished lunch, teams were made up, as well as a cheering squad, and off we went to the baseball field. Each team had some very talented players! The staff had so much fun playing and laughing and enjoying the beautiful day!
Fresh Pond Explorations
Fresh Pond has always been a fascinating place for Room 283 students. The students explored Black's Nook and found a hungry turtle that was eating a cracker, many curious fish, and a couple of big frogs. The children's interest in frogs was an inspiration for a unit in the Science Area. During another field trip to Fresh Pond, the children walked to Lusitania Woodland and watched tree swallows in their nestbox. Also we went to Kingsley Park a few times and discovered a small playground where the students used various logs to build interesting structures. We would like to thank Julie Croston and our parents who shared the joy of field trips with us!
Pilot Visitor
Room 282 had a special visitor. Clem's dad came to talk to the children about being a pilot. We had so much fun making our own gliders and flying them out outside in the playground. Since it was such a nice day outside, we decided to take a walk in the neighborhood. While walking we saw a mailman, who talked about delivering mail to our neighbors and let us look inside his truck filled with mail just waiting to be delivered!
2016 Montessori for Social Justice Conference
Attention, Tobin families, we need your help for the upcoming Montessori for Social Justice conference we are hosting!!!
Below are a couple of ways you can support this:
– Would you like to help out by hosting a conference participant? You can host attendees in your home! Here is an exciting way for local families and teachers to support the conference by hosting attendees June 23, 24 and 25th. Click here to sign-up if you are interested in hosting.
– We will also need parent volunteers to help with preparations, such as photocopying, stuffing folders, set-up and clean-up of meals, and compiling a list of local eateries and things-to-do. If you are interested in helping, please sign up online.
