Reflections from Katie
“There were a whole bunch of teachers in my classroom today watching what we were doing!” Is this something you have heard from your child, and perhaps wondered what was going on? What exactly are the teachers watching? Is something wrong? Who is really learning from whom here? Hear more >>

Who Are the People
in Your Neighborhood?
Meet Cambridgeport parent Firdaus Hamyar!

How long have you been a parent at Cambridgeport?
Only 3 years! I have two children here. One in the 2nd grade and one in Kindergarden. My oldest two are at CSUS. They graduated from C’port.

What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
Coming to America all by myself! I was 19 and I was scared. I had a 12 hour layover in Amsterdam. I just walked around the airport. When I arrived I settled in Wichita, Kansas.

What kind of animal would you be? I would love to be an eagle! I would love to fly! No more airline tickets, I can just decide where to go...anywhere in the world.

What would your dream job be? To help others. Kids or adults. I would love to help them with anything they need.

What Learning Looks Like
Lorna and Alden’s JK classroom has been reading many different books by Eric Carle. They followed up their read-a-louds with a fun project. Children painted, cut and glued shapes into fun Eric Carle style illustrations. See them outside the classroom on the big yellow bulletin board.

Donations Needed

BOOKS OF INTEREST
Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor
This is a a 1976 novel about a strong, land owning, Black family in the American South during the Depression. Taylor masterfully balances difficult and brutal examples of racism with positive examples of connected and loving family life. This book won a Newbery Medal.

FUN FACT
Colleen Cadger, who works in one of our Special Start preschool classrooms, earned her degree from Lesley University in 2013. She started working on her degree before she became a mother, and finished once they were older!
