Message from Principal Yung
Our core value for next month is Respect. In its most traditional form, respect is about following norms and expected customs. For our students, another way to think about what respect means is to focus on the relationship and consideration aspects. Respect means that you care about another person’s feelings. Examples include being courteous and polite to our cafeteria staff during breakfast and lunch lines, holding the door for others, not saying mean things, and taking turns to talk (not interrupting). I overheard one of our fourth grade students explaining it her to class as “respect is being nice to others, don’t be rude, and follow directions you were given.” We invite you to join us at home in focusing on respect for upcoming month. Cider Pressing

It's Apple Cider Pressing Time!
The MLK school is in the middle of cider pressing season! The kids are able to participate in each step of the cider making process. They wash, cut, and mash the apples. As well help to press them into fresh apple cider. At the end each student gets to taste the product of their hard work! Read more >>

Brooksby Farm

Off to the Farm
First Grade students traveled to Brooksby Farm in Peabody to study plants and animals as part of the new science curriculum. Students took a hayride tour through the apple orchard, picked a pumpkin, and fed farm animals. It was a beautiful fall day and memorable trip.

Book Fair

Book Fair
November 8 - 10 | First Floor Conference Room
One of the most common questions I am asked is to give book recommendations for younger students who can read longer and more complex novels but who are not necessarily ready for some of the mature themes often found in these books. Read a handful of suggestions from the MLK School library >>

Come and shop for free at the King Open Market on Friday November 4 3-5. Please bring your own bags.

Cradles to Crayons

The King School has a new partner!
Starting this Friday November 4 Cradles to crayons will be at our Open Market! Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. They supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.

At the King Market, representatives from Cradles to Crayons will be on hand to take your orders for clothing items, outerwear, footwear and more!

Sick Day

Cambridge Public Health Flu Clinics:
Oct. 12–Nov. 9
Nasal spray vaccine will not be offered.

The Cambridge Public Health Department will be offering free flu shots (influenza vaccine) to people who live or work in Cambridge at sites throughout the city from Oct. 12 through Nov. 9.

The flu can be a serious illness, and the best way to protect yourself is to get a flu shot every year. Flu vaccine is considered safe and effective for adults and children over 6 months. While there is no charge to the public for flu shots, people with health insurance are encouraged to bring their cards with them to the clinics.
