FMA Scares Up A Halloween Celebration
Something spooky happened here at Fletcher Maynard on Friday, October 31th! Friends and family of the Fletcher Maynard Academy, members of FMA PTO, Fletcher Maynard Community School, FMA Parents, and Tutoring Plus gathered in the FMA gym for an evening of fun. It was the annual Fletcher Maynard Halloween Party!
This year’s event was a great success thanks to the wonderful collaborative efforts of everyone involved! The Fletcher Maynard Academy graciously provided pizza, snacks & drinks for our party animals! Which was a good thing so the kids had the energy to fly through the air in the bounce house. FMA teachers were kind enough to volunteer their time and talents helping with face painting, running Halloween themed craft projects with community school staff, …helping students guess the number of worms in a pumpkin and the other fun activity tables. Summer Work
On Thursday, October 27 students who completed their Summer Work Calendars participated in a PTO sponsored pizza party celebration! It was a chance for students to come together, listen to music, and eat pizza. The students shared their favorite summer reading activity, their love of DuoLingo, and their favorite math websites. Fun was had by all!
Thanks to all of the families who supported this work!
Thank you to Sue Young, Cherie Coulson and Julie D'Angelis for being part of the celebration!

First Graders at Shelburne
On Friday, October 28, Room 108, 109, and 210 students braved the dreary weather to venture out to Shelburne Farm in Stow, MA. Upon disembarking from the bus, Room 109 students hopped aboard the haywagon for a fun and bumpy ride through the orchard.
In the meantime, Room 108 and 210 students chose the perfect pie pumpkins to take back to their families! Then the classes switched, and Room 108 had a hayride (with a spontaneous sing-a-long!) while Room 109 chose some very lovely pumpkins.
Later, both classes gathered in the picnic area to enjoy lunches, cider, and doughnuts. Yum!! Then we spent a little while observing the farm animals, and playing on the playground before we had to leave. Despite the drizzle and chilly wind, students, teachers, and parents had a fantastic time!
Behold, our Library
The new school year brought about some new and exciting changes to the Fletcher Maynard Academy Library! Staff, students and many parents may remember the 2nd floor hallway at the end of the school year in June. Every item from the library was removed, packed and placed in the hallway, making room for brand new flooring to be installed. Over the summer that mission was accomplished. In addition, new outlets were installed and we got a fresh, new coat of paint. Read more >>
Fourth Grade
In poetry workshop the fourth grade students tried out acrostic poems. An acrostic poem is a type of poetry where the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a particular word or phrase. The most common and simple form of an acrostic poem is where the first letters of each line spell out the word or phrase. Mrs. Martin challenged the students to write descriptive phrases, rather than a word or two.
