Message from Principal Julie Craven
Dear RAUC Families,
While presidential elections typically bring up emotional responses, this year was unusually charged. Regardless of our individual opinions or positions, we know many of our children have responded to the election results with feelings of worry, anger, sadness, and confusion. In that light, I wanted to share how we are caring for all our students. Last week teachers made space for students to have honest and civil conversations about the election and democracy. We reinforced the message that everyone belongs at our school. Teachers continue to engage students in the rich curricular work of the year. I am confident that they do so in a manner that remains true to our shared commitment to inclusion, compassion, and human decency.
I would also like to share a resource that I found helpful from the National Association of School Psychologists: NASP: Guidance for Reinforcing Safe, Supportive and Positive School Environments for All Students (read article at http://bit.ly/2fUerG4). Please reach out to the school if you would like further support.
On a final note, grades will be live on Aspen on Friday, November 18. We will mail them to families without email addresses. Please see the information on Aspen help sessions in this newsletter. Information about signing up for December conferences will be in the next newsletter.
Thank you for your partnership in support of the success and well-being of all our students.
Best,
Julie Craven

Debate Club RAUCs!
This past Saturday RAUC debaters participated in their first tournament, with 38 teams from Boston and Cambridge--about 75 students in total. Thanks to staff advisors Dan Tobin (6th ELA) and Marilyn Rottersman (building sub extraordinaire) for their guidance. Here is how Mr. Tobin describes the day: “This was our first ever tournament and not one person knew what to expect. We figured this would be a learning experience to help us for next time, but we came home with four awards, include second best overall in our division. Very proud of our kids, they made RAUC look good.”

Eva Kaufman, 12th best speaker

Library Magazine Drive (ongoing)
Please donate your magazines to the library after you've finished reading them! You can give magazines to your child to give to me, or leave them on my desk (the table across from the library door). Our students have wide taste: I've had requests for everything from Sports Illustrated to cooking magazines to The Economist. Thanks to FRAUC for the idea last year!
