STEM

Think Like an Engineer!
Students of the Baldwin STEM club are learning about gravity, motion, weight, and the engineering design process. Using pipes, foam noodles, paper towel tubes, and tape, they are building marble roller coasters!

Did you ever notice that a looping roller coaster is not in a circle but in a teardrop shape? That is called a clothoid loop. Students are learning about kinetic energy, potential energy, and centripetal force.

On Friday mornings, the STEM Club students engage in projects, explorations, and math competition problems. They work with each other to build, create and solve.

STEM Club invites all students and their families to the fourth annual STEM Night on December 7.

Tinkercad

How a Math Project Continued with TinkerCad and 3D Printing
Submitted by Kjersti Rosen, parent
Last year in 5th grade, my son Xander and his friend Edwin designed a house as a math project in Ms. Miller's math class. The boys enjoyed the project, their house looked good, and now the project has continued and has taken on a life of its own. Read more >>

Beautiful Things

Beautiful!
Beautiful Stuff --- learning with found material.
The kindergarten students in K212 unleashed their creativity! They arranged and sorted recyclable materials and then transformed those found objects into beautiful self-portraits.

Vote

You Decide 2016
Grade 1 students in room 208 had an election of their own on November 8th. After a hard-fought campaign, it was the day to decide ... Cheese Sticks or Apples ... for snack. The result ... Abigail Apple, in a landslide.

There were also ballot questions posted to room 208:

  1. We should have only carrots for snack every day.
  2. Everyone should eat all of their food at snack time, even if they don't like it.
  3. People should be able to go get a snack from home in their bag if they want to.

Betty

A Fond Farewell
Betty McNeeley, Baldwin School Clerk for 28 years, retired on November 18. The students paid tribute to Betty at an all-school meeting with cards, poetry, songs, gifts, and a student written play. It was a beautiful send off for the person who took care of everyone at school.

LOST AND FOUND
The lost and found is located by the Sacramento Street door. If your child is missing clothing, that is the first place to look. The afterschool also has a lost and found and it is located by the elevator on the lower level. Please label your child's outerwear. That's the best way to get lost items back where they belong.
