Kindergarten Music Students in the Spotlight
On Saturday, November 19, students from K212 converged at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School to participate in a special demonstration music lesson observed by area music teachers. The event--co-sponsored by the CPS Visual and Performing Arts Department, the Kodály Music Institute, and Boston Area Kodály Educators--was organized as a professional development workshop for practicing music educators. Because of the Baldwin's strong reputation for quality music education, Mr. Epstein was invited to bring K212 to show a model kindergarten music lesson using the Kodály concept. Read on >>

Skate

A Rewarding Experience
Learning how to ice skate can be a rewarding experience! First grade students in Mr. O'Connor's first grade had a wonderful morning at the Simoni Rink.

Although some students were hesitant at first, many found confidence by the end of the session. Fun Skate is run by Cambridge Human Services Programs Recreation Division Coordinator, Bob Goodwin. He teaches students from schools around Cambridge how to skate. He starts by teaching them how to get up when they fall. Once they get over their fear of falling, sheer persistence is what gets them all skating. When they are ice skating, they are engaging their bodies and improving their minds. It is truly representative of growth mindset, understanding that they are improving constantly, even though they may still fall.

Garden

Baldwin Garden
From Michele Kaufman, Garden Coordinator
With the help of our students, the garden is asleep for the winter. We pulled up most of the plants, filled up our compost with leaves, covered the perennials with hay to protect them, and planted garlic and winter rye seeds. ?Classrooms may still take advantage of visiting the garden during the winter months. The garden is still an exciting place to explore in the winter: the compost is full and busy with decomposition, the perennials can still be sketched, and the hay offers new spaces to examine.

I will be off for two months, returning after February vacation week. Thank you for the wonderful season.

Looking forward to the spring...

Michele

The lost and found is located by the Sacramento Street door. If your child is missing clothing, that is the first place to look. The afterschool also has a lost and found and it is located by the elevator on the lower level. Please label your child's outerwear. That's the best way to get lost items back where they belong.
