Caring
The children of Room 210 (Neil and Mrs. Peterson) were concerned for those who lost their homes during the recent fire in East Cambridge. Where would they live? What would they eat? What would they wear? WHO WOULD PAY FOR IT? The children remembered a book we had read about the Statue of Liberty earlier this fall. Before the statue could be built, money for its pedestal ran out. Children across the United States donated pennies to pay for the completion of the pedestal. Inspired by this story, the children of Room 210 wrote signs asking for coin donations (and emptied their own pockets as well). They counted multiples of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. They rolled them into paper sleeves and added all the subtotals together. They collected OVER $200.00! After walking up to the bank to exchange the coins for a money order, the students sent the check to City Hall to be added to the Mayor's Fund. Great job, Room 210! You should be very proud of yourselves!
