Skiing at Pat's Peak

Big Hills, Wonderful Experience
This January marks the second year of our partnership with Youth Enrichment Services (YES) of Boston. We are lucky to be one of only a few schools in Cambridge to partner with YES. Each year grades 3-5 are invited on a day long ski and snow-boarding trip. It has been an amazing experience for both the students and the adult chaperones. This year we thank Ms Kathy Kelsey (math specialist) and Ms. Maria Guiterrez, (kindergarten teacher) as well as the parents and the caregivers who volunteered to chaperone this trip to Pat's Peak, New Hampshire. Here is a summary of a 4th graders experience on the trip:

By: Ava D., 4th grader
The fourth and fifth grades of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School went to Pat's Peak in N. H. on a ski trip. The YES program organized the trip. We traveled by school bus.
When we arrived we took lessons. We learned how to put on our skis, how to stop and ski down the hill with our skis pointed like a triangle, the instructors called it a “pizza”. We went up the mountain on a conveyor belt also know as the magic carpet. We had a lot of fun skiing. It was a wonderful experience.

At the end of the day YES had a ceremony for all of the students. They gave us a glow stick and we all skied down the mountain with the glow stick in our hands!

Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this trip happen.

News from 5th Grade

Hello MLK families. I would like to give an announcement: there is a 5th grade food drive going on from now until March 3rd. Examples of what you can bring in for the food drive are canned foods and also you can bring dry foods. Please do not donate pie, pizza, fresh fruits or vegetables. It will be donated to a local food pantry. Why? It will be donated there to help our community. So come save people from hunger. Please help our community.
