Read Across America
On Thursday, April 13, we wrapped up our six week long Read Across America challenge. This year's theme was Celebrating America's Diverse Readers; MLK students were challenged to read a variety of books and earn Bingo prizes. Students got 670 Bingos, which means they read at least 3,350 books! The top four classes were Ms. Schineller's third grade, Mrs. Fetter's fourth grade, Ms. Galante's first grade, and Tan Lao-shi and Ms. V's first grade. As a result of all their reading, students got to watch Mrs. Petitt, Ms. Cohen, and Mr. Yung get pies smashed in their faces!
Several students wrote persuasive letters to convince teachers that they should have pie-smashing honors. Camila Casimer, Briana Bernard, and Abigail Alexis from Ms. Galante's first grade got to smash pies into Mrs. Petitt's face. Ms. Cohen had pies thrown at her by Haste Amare from Mrs. McEachern's second grade and Yulian Keutsch from Mrs. Schineller's third grade. Finally, Olivia-Sarae Callahan from Ms. Liz and Tien Lao-shi's JK/K, and Maryam Barry from Mrs. Fetter's fourth grade smashed pies in Mr. Yung's face!
Congrats to all students for working so hard on their reading!
Living History
On March 20th, the 4th and 5th grades welcomed a panel of esteemed guests to the King School. The panel discussion was designed to highlight the living history present in our community and to connect the protests and the struggles for justice that are happening today with those of the past.
