Spring Concert!
Friday, June 9 | 8:15AM
Come celebrate the arrival of spring with our annual Spring Concert. The concert will feature kindergarten through fourth grade general music/chorus, fifth grade brass, wind and string students. Three and four year olds will be attending the dress rehearsal so there will be enough seating for all the parents. Please make sure your children wear concert white and black (white blouses or shirts, black pants or skirts). Please leave in plenty of time to park the car! There will be NO parking in front of the school.
Art & Science in One
Art & Science in One (AS1), a nature journaling program offered through Cambridge School Volunteers finished off the season on Friday, May 26th with a map-making and sketching session outdoors that included sightings of chickadees feeding their young, a toad, several frogs, a phoebe, and fish pulled from the water at Black’s Nook. Eastern Red Columbines were in full bloom as each student in Susan Grassey’s classroom went out for the last of the program’s three two-hour trips accompanied by their individual volunteer mentor. On this occasion, some terrific maps were made, illustrated by students’ sketches of plants and wildlife.
Skills of scientific observation are built in this program, which celebrated its fifth year of operation. One volunteer, Rebecca Ramsay, has been a volunteer in the program for all five years! Tobin Cambridge School Volunteers staff member Julie Croston coordinates the program; Erica Beade, who teaches at the Harvard Museum of Natural History, trains the volunteers and works with the students, and Ranger Jean Rogers, Fresh Pond Reservation’s chief ranger for over 20 years, is usually available to consult on these outings. Thanks to CSV and thanks to the 17 mentors and 2 alternates who participates this year!
