What's It Like to Be Principal & Assistant Principal for a Day?
Principal Experience
By Lucy
I arrived at school at 7:20 am to welcome all the students to the school. Ms. Frost handed over her work phone, her I.D., and her walky talky, which was connected to Maggie’s walky talky (Maggie was Mr. Huber for a day). Over the course of the day we: patrolled the halls, prioritized the school for summer painting, went to numerous meetings, checked in on classes, delivered boxes, stamped books for the school, prepared for the new M3, and observed dismissal. Through this experience I have learned a lot about what the principal does for our school.
What It was Like to Be the Assistant Principal
By Maggie
When I first got to school at 7:25, I was excited. Wearing a white shirt, black pants and a red tie so I could match Mr.Joey. The meetings I went to weren't the funniest part of the day. But one of the fun parts was talking to Lucy the Principal. We were calling each other on the phone Mr. Joey gave us. We were texting as well. We were also given Walkie Talkies that we found very useful in getting in touch with one another. We walked around the school with Mr. Joey to help pick out jobs that needed to be done over the summer. I even got to download a game on the phone Joey gave me! I am happy I was the Vice Principal for the day because now I know that being the Vice Principal isn't always fun. It's hard work and sometimes gets boring.
And the Winner is...
More than 30 Tobin and VLUS students read the Student Choice Books this year and voted for their favorite in 2 categories. Pictured here are the New Book winners: The War That Saved My Life with a close runner-up of The Misadventures of the Family Fletcher. In the Oldies but Goodies category, Because of Mr. Terupt was the clear winner with 80% of the votes. Students who participated were invited to a pizza party to count the votes and celebrate. Next week we'll announce next year's book list!
Fern Sidewalk
Written by Stella Guest and Piper Ullmann
On Thursday, June 8th, Room 204’s 5th graders took Ms. Mayya’s class to see the sidewalk on Fern Street. As the 5th graders held the kindergarteners hands, they all walked to see the sidewalk. When they arrived, they stared in wonder at the beautiful sidewalk. The kind workers, who are in charge of making this beautiful sidewalk, stopped working to show them the colors. The sidewalk is made of colorful cement infused with glass of all colors. All the the kindergarteners knelt down and tried picking up the sparkling glass. Then they all happily walked back to the school, hand in hand.
Take a walk to Fern St... It is right behind the school. You’ll be happy you did!
Colonial Days
All of our Lower Elementary students celebrated Colonial Days! The children learned what it was like to live back in those days. The students learned how to dance the "Virginia Reel." Making candles and cranberry sauce was so much fun! They carved soap and used stencils, too!
Play Date Fun!
Tobin parent Caroline Stowell organized a play date for last Saturday for all our Cubs Corner friends. Lots of families stopped by the park on Cedar St. for an afternoon of playing with friends. Thank you to Ezra's mom for planning a great party!
Field Day | Tuesday, June 13th
Families are welcome to stop by and cheer the students on during this Annual event. The schedule is below. Don't forget the sunscreen and water bottle!
