Reading without Walls

Summer Reading for Rising 7th Graders: A Note from Ms. Gonzalez
Every summer, students in Cambridge have to read five books, one of them being nonfiction. Many teachers do this, too. This year I am participating in the nationwide, Reading Without Walls Challenge, and it has helped me make my summer reading list.

I encourage you to participate in this challenge as well. Explore the world through books, feel challenged, and inspired! For those of you who want to really stretch yourself, find a book that meets all three criteria at once. When you are finished with a book, post it on Instagram with the hashtag, #ReadingWithoutWalls. You will see lots of people participating and may find more books to add to your reading list. (You can check out Ms. Gonzalez’s summer reading list here.)

For the past two weeks, students have been studying, brainstorming, outlining, drafting, and revising their ELA essays about a personal belief and the story from their own lives that helped them form or change that belief. Come by and hear students share their essays in small groups and with the larger community. Parents, teachers, and other interested adults are welcome! Please check in with the Peabody office downstairs as you arrive. Friday at 2PM in the sixth grade hallway. View the Flyer >>
