Shirts

Off to a Great Start!
It's an exciting time of the year - starting a new school year. This year we are starting the year with a new principal, Ms. Heidi and some great new Baldwin School shirts provided to the staff by the Friends of Baldwin. Thank you FoB for outfitting the team.

Principal's Corner
Hello Baldwin Families!
As a principal in a new school and at the start of a new school year, I’m thinking a lot about taking the time to really think about our “vision” for success and I wanted to share a few related thoughts with you. I’m thinking about a shared vision of our school, and of student success and improvement in the areas we need to grow. I’m always trying to clarify my own vision of safe, invested and engaged students and of a diverse and empowered staff at the Baldwin. Read more >>

News from the Nurse
JK & K Hearing and Vision Testing
Hearing and vision testing will be done in the next few weeks for JK and K students. You will receive a hard copy form about the testing. Parents can refuse testing by returning the form.

Keeping Your Health Information Up to Date
If you have an updated physical, updated immune records, or an inhaler for your child, please send this in as soon as you are able. It is appreciated!

Medication
Just a reminder that if your child needs to take a medication during school hours at any point this year, they need a signed doctor’s order and a new bottle of the medicine brought to the health office in order for me to administer this.

I will provide updates about school health and reminders for parents in newsletters to come. Please check in with me at any time if you have questions or concerns about school health at the Baldwin!

Sincerely,

Nurse Dana

Garden

Garden Party & Potluck
Thursday, October 12 | 5PM - Sundown
Spend the evening in the school garden. Ms. Kaufman, our CitySprouts educator, will help students with cider pressing. Students will make lanterns to take home. Please bring a dish to share and a large plastic soda bottle or jar to transform into a beautiful lantern.

News from the Garden
Welcome back to school! Hope you all had a lovely, rejuvenating summer. I am so excited for the school year to begin and to spend time with your students in the garden.

I will be at Baldwin every Monday from 12:30 – 4PM and Thursday from 7:30 – 11:30AM.

During the first two weeks of school, I work with classrooms to establish garden expectations. Right now there are so many opportunities for learning outside.

In the next few weeks we will be:

  • Planting seeds (lettuce, spinach, radishes, beets, and more), great as a base experience for nonfiction and/or sequential writing
  • Harvesting/eating (tomatoes, kale, collards, carrots, chard, beans, basil, and more)
  • Chopping, turning, and exploring the compost, great for exploring living vs. nonliving things
  • Watering
  • Garden Poetry
  • Measuring and graphing plant growth over the course of the season
  • Observational and scientific drawing
  • Exploring different shapes and colors

These are just a few examples of the amazing work classrooms will do in the garden this fall.

-- Michele Kaufman, Garden Coordinator, CitySprouts

SITE COUNCIL

Be part of a group of parents and faculty that work in conjunction with the Baldwin faculty teams to work toward the school's improvement goals, outlined in the school improvement plan.

Commitment of a Site Council Member: Attend a 60 minute meeting once a month (on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 8 AM). Your child is welcome to accompany you or can go to the cafeteria for breakfast or to the gymnasium for Let's Move. Meetings are in the school library. If you are not sure about being on the council, please come to a meeting to see what it is all about. First meeting of the school year: Wednesday, October 11.

ALL SCHOOL MEETINGS
Each month, the Baldwin School has an all-school meeting. This is an opportunity for the entire school to get together as a community. It is run like a Responsive Classroom morning meeting starting with a greeting followed by classroom shares. Classrooms take turns sharing their work. All are welcome to attend. Dates for all-school meetings will be announced soon.
