Reflections from Katie
Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to support our 4th graders on their overnight camping trip to Camp Becket in the Berkshires. This trip is something I have always held dear in our community, and I wanted to share a bit with you about why it is so important, and how my thinking about the trip has changed over time. It’s important as a way to connect with nature, and it’s also important as a way to connect with one another. The trip makes memories for all of our children. Hear more from Katie >>

Who Are the People
in Your Neighborhood?
Meet Cambridgeport Clerk Maria Bermudez!

How long have you worked at Cambridgeport?
I have been here 25 years. First I was a classroom assistant, and then I moved to Student Support Person. I am in my third year as clerk.

What is something about you that no one knows?
So, this was my elementary school. I graduated from this building in 8th grade in 1976.

Other than working for a school, what would your dream job be?
I have actually always wanted to work with children. Anything that has to do with kids, actually having direct contact with them makes me happy. Since I was young, kids have always been drawn to me. Some people are born with gifts, and I have always thought that mine is being able to be nurturing and caring toward children.

What kind of animal would you be?
I would be...a butterfly. No one is afraid of a butterfly, and I would love the ability and freedom to fly and transform. I compare that with the transformation you see in children.

Design Lab
If you are free on 10/17 or 12/5 and want an intro to the Design Thinking, please join an open Design Lab workshop at CRLS. Please email Angie at [email protected] if you plan to attend. Thanks!

cider pressing

CitySprouts News
Volunteer to help your child’s classroom press apple cider in the school garden! During the annual cider pressing days children are introduced to the school garden by participating in making apple cider outside. Parent volunteers are warmly welcomed to help with crowd control and clean up. City Sprouts will be at Cambridgeport on Oct. 11, 12th and 16th. Contact Andrea Locke at [email protected] to sign up.

Night at the Museum
Friday, October 27th
Bus departs from Cambridgeport at 5:30PM
Bus departs MFA at 8PM
Please join us for a fun and FREE outing to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Families interested in going should RSVP Kristen at: [email protected]. We will travel together in a school bus to the MFA, enter the building as a group, and then spread out and explore together or alone. We will meet back at the bus to leave by 8PM sharp. This should be a lot of fun, so please come weather you have been to the Museum of Fine Arts many times, or never before.

Cambridge Youth Soccer
Cambridge Youth Soccer is a great organization with a commitment to supporting the love of skill development, fitness, and team building for every interested child in Cambridge. They offer scholarships and can help families access secondhand equipment. If your child thinks they might want to play but isn’t sure, children are invited to try a team for a week before making a commitment. Contact Jason with questions about joining and be sure to ask about a scholarship if that makes sense for your family. Jason Targoff: [email protected]
