Building Respect and Kindness
At a recent Amigos School Council meeting, one of our parents brought up the question of how we support and address the practice of showing and modeling respect at Amigos. At the elementary level, the notion of respect often translates into classroom rules that are developed by students and teachers around being kind, being able to share, listen, reflect, and compromise. Suspensions and Restorative Justice
In our leadership meetings in August, Superintendent Dr. Young, asked all administrators to review and respond to the practice of “Suspending” students from school this year. Although Amigos has a very low suspension rate, we have also begun to review alternatives to suspension, specifically using practices called ‘Restorative Justice’. Read more >>

Amigos MCAS data from 2013 – 14 reveals that on a scale of lowest, (0) to highest (99), Amigos falls into the 83rd percentile in schools that have a similar structure (K – 8), and demographics (urban) across the state. Read more >>
