Turkey Trot Fun!
On Wednesday, November 22nd, the early release day before Thanksgiving break, the Haggerty Students had a lot of fun turkey-trotting in the gymnasium with Mr. Materazzo. Students came to the gym for about an hour, in mixed age groups, to do collaborative games. There was a lot of teamwork, dancing, and giggles. Mr. Materazzo dressed as a turkey (you can find him in the top left photo dancing under the parachute with some students). Thanks to parent Carroll Magill, for once again being our DJ for the day! Thanks to Friends of Haggerty for everyone's Turkey Trot participation ribbon!
Winter Clothing Exchange
The weather has finally become more winter-like. We have brought out our winter clothing exchange again. This is a great way to pass on gently used winter clothing (jackets, snow pants, boots, hats, or gloves/mittens) - that your children no longer fit into. It is also a place to look for the next size.
It is located in the main lobby. Please only bring clean, gently-used donations.
It's a take one and/or leave one exchange.
Above is a picture of it right now, as you can see we need some donations.
Thanks for your help!

Hello Haggerty Families! Many families have questions about how to help their children with story problems. This Mindprint blog post has some suggestions that you may find helpful. When students solve story problems, they have to read and remember alot of information. This can be challenging! There are helpful strategies students can use, like reading the problem carefully and highlighting important information, drawing a picture to show the situation, and estimating to make sure the answer makes sense. Pigeon Day
Last Tuesday, Nov. 21st was Pigeon Day in Kindergarten. To celebrate the books by Mo Willems, author of "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" (one among many), the four JK/K classrooms embraced all things Mo Willems. Darrin Johnson, 5the grade parent returned again this year to help with the fun. Here are some photos from that day.
Sock Drive
The fifth graders are having a Sock Drive for the homeless. Did you know that in 2015 there were 464 homeless people living on the streets and next to bus stations and train stations in Central Square? (Website: “Combatting Homelessness in Cambridge) Wow! That’s just Central Square! Imagine how many are in Cambridge. According to the Mayo Clinic, frostbite can occur in 30 minutes or less.
Usually, people who are homeless don’t get many socks because other people don’t think to donate them. We will be collecting socks until December 15, 2017. Thank you for your support! Collection boxes are located in the Haggerty School’s lobby, lawn street entrance, and playground entrance.
Sincerely,
The Fifth Grade
