Family Folk Dance Fun!
On Thursday, November 30th, the entire Haggerty School Community gathered in the gym for a family folk dance night! Our second graders had recently finished an 8-week curriculum during their Physical Education class with dancer Andy Taylor-Blenis (andytaylordance.com), to learn folk dance from the Colonial times through today - which was made possible by Friends of Haggerty! After this in-depth curriculum we thought it would be fun for our second graders to lead the whole community in a fun night of dance - along with Andy and two live musicians (Susie Petrov and Catherine Miller). Andy had everyone up and dancing together - both grown-ups and kids. We also had a wonderful performance by our second graders - who got to show off a few of the dances they had learned. We are very lucky to have this additional opportunity supported by Friends of Haggerty - as well as this fun family night! The school was also decorated with folk art the students made in Art Class - thanks to Laurie Gaines (our art teacher) and Carroll Magill (Parent Volunteer).
Winter Clothing Exchange
The weather has finally become more winter-like. We have brought out our winter clothing exchange again. This is a great way to pass on gently used winter clothing (jackets, snow pants, boots, hats, or gloves/mittens) - that your children no longer fit into. It is also a place to look for the next size.
It is located in the main lobby. Please only bring clean, gently-used donations.
It's a take one and/or leave one exchange.
Above is a picture of it right now, as you can see we need some donations.
Thanks for your help!

It's a big week in the world of educational technology as we celebrate Computer Science Education Week! At the Haggerty School, we have the luxury of observing an entire "Month of Coding," as we focus on activities that promote computational thinking, computer programming, and coding during tech classes throughout the month of December (this week, JK, K, 1, and 5 classes have begun, while the rest of our students will begin next week). - Did not attend art school but taught themselves their craft
- Often used recycled materials or found objects in their work

Dear Families,
At this time of year, some of you might be thinking about what to do over vacation that will be fun and help your kids keep learning math. One answer is… card games!! Card games are a great way for kids to practice math skills. In general, when you play these games, take out the Jacks, Queens, Kings and Jokers. Aces are worth 1. Read on >>
Sock Drive End Tomorrow
The fifth graders are having a Sock Drive for the homeless. Did you know that in 2015 there were 464 homeless people living on the streets and next to bus stations and train stations in Central Square? (Website: “Combatting Homelessness in Cambridge) Wow! That’s just Central Square! Imagine how many are in Cambridge!
Usually, people who are homeless don’t get many socks because other people don’t think to donate them. We will be collecting socks until December 15, 2017. Thank you for your support! Collection boxes are located in the Haggerty School’s lobby, lawn street entrance, and playground entrance.
Sincerely,
The Fifth Grade!

The money earned goes directly back to the classrooms for student enrichment, and supports things like field trips, library books, and artist and author visits (and much much more!!) ensuring opportunities and participation for all Haggerty students.
