Is It Yours?
Recognize anything in the lost and found? If so, let Mary know. She'll be happy to bring it to your child. All of the unclaimed articles will be put in the recycling bin outside of the school on Thursday, December 21st.
Bundle Up!
The weather outside is frightful!! Make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the cold weather. We love to get the students outside as much as we can. Hats and mittens, boots and warm jackets are needed to have a wonderful time on a brisk winter day!
Lending Library
Did you know that you can go to Room 239 and check out these amazing titles? Montessori – as well as parenting – books are available! Have parenting books you would like to donate? Just drop them off in the office, and we will take care of them.
Hour of Code
Last week, people ages 4 to 44 in our Tobin community participated in Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week. The purpose was to inspire students to take an interest in computer science and programming. We had fun programming robots (Bee Bots & Ozobots) and wrote code for Wonder Woman and Minercraft – and a few 5th grade students even learned Javascript.
Chanukah Celebration
Romy’s mom Emmy came to celebrate Chanukah with us. We lit the menorah, Romy read us a story, we tasted latkes and played dreidel games. A big thank you from room 286 for the fun celebration!
Living Wax Museum
Last Friday, our Upper Elementary students participated in a Living Wax Museum. As part of our study of the revolutionary war, each student chose a significant person that they wanted to learn about. For eight weeks, the students read books and researched information about their person. They learned how to take notes, summarize information and turn their research into an essay. From their essay, they then wrote a speech that was 1-2 minutes long and practiced that speech until they had memorized it. Lastly, students dressed up as their person and then became a Living Wax Museum. As a visitor approached a student, they would 'come to life' and give their speech. When they were finished they returned to a Wax figure. The students worked diligently on this project and were completely amazing. Everyone who was able to visit was very impressed by the knowledge these students had. Small groups of students also visited each classroom and gave their speech to the students. Our very young students couldn't understand why our students said they were 'dead.’ This was our first time completing this type of project but definitely will not be the last.
