Who's Who at the King
This year we welcome our new art teacher, Ms. Sara Engle. Ms. Engle comes to us after teaching art in the Somerville Public Schools for 2 years. Before that, she made those cool signs and displays that can be seen at Whole Foods Markets. Sara has always liked making things and she has always enjoyed working with children, so she put the two together and becoming an art teacher seemed like the natural next step.

Ms. Engle has been impressed by both the physical beauty of our new building and by the welcoming and helpful staff at the King. She was also struck by the level of diversity that exists here at the King.

Sara is looking forward to presenting an all school art show in the spring. She would like to connect with the surrounding community by bringing students work out into the world and visiting artists and their work into the school.

Science is Life
We are excited to invite you and your child/children to participate in a historic new research study in our lab, called the Human Connectome Project - Development. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, this study will enroll 1,300+ participants across the nation to investigate how different parts of the brain are connected to each other, and how these connections change from childhood into adulthood. This study involves coming to our lab in Cambridge for two separate sessions, where participants ages 8-21 would be answering questionnaires about common thoughts, feelings and behaviors, playing computer games, undergoing safe, non-invasive brain imaging (MRI), and providing some biological samples like saliva. Parents of minors would also be asked to answer some questions about their children and about themselves. By participating in this study, your child would earn between $75 and $150 in cash and we would pay you $250 for your time and effort. In addition to the base compensation, your child might also win some bonus money based on their performance in one of the games, and we will also give you an extra $15 if you bring your child's saliva sample to their appointment. Your child will also be able to keep the small prizes and snacks received during the testing sessions. If you're interested and would like to know more, please contact us: 617.496.4979 or [email protected].
