mira reading to class

Special Guest
Mira Tanwar, a Lower Elementary student, was a special Reading Guest in her brother Narain's classroom. Mira read ABC Menagerie, a wonderful book written by M. H. Clark and Elena V. Tagrioni. Thank you Mira for sharing your love of reading with us.

Your Opinion Counts!
We are always trying to do our best and need you to help us do that! Please fill out the survey below. We are trying for 100% participation; only nine people have taken the survey so far. Also, computers will be set up in the lobby the day of the concert (Feb. 2nd) for families to take the survey. Thank you!

A Treat!
Joanna Fischer, a long time friend of room 282 (her daughter Meaghan was in the class several years ago) stopped by the make ginger bread cookies with the students. She taught the children how to measure, mix and bake the cookies. The best part was eating the cookies! Thank you, Miss Joanna, for coming back year after year!

Let's Celebrate the New England Patriots ALL next week. Wear your favorite Patriots Spirit Wear or Red, White and Blue Monday through Thursday.

The Gingerbread Man
Jackson's mom Molly, came to room 282 last week to read the book The Gingerbread Man to the class. After we all enjoyed listening the story, Jackson's mom gave us each a heart shaped cookie that was delicious! Thank you, Molly!

Lost & Found
Still wondering where that jacket, hat or gloves went…… Please check out our lost and found. We're sure you’ll be glad you did. These items are in a crate in front of the office.

Book Fair is Coming!
We will once again hold a Best Book Fair for both Tobin and VLUS during Spirit Week, March 5-9. An EXCITING update is the books will still be here during Movie Night! We will need volunteers for a variety of jobs and times - both before and during the Fair at all times of day. Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested and keep your eyes out for a link to sign up for a volunteer slot.

africa celebration

Celebrating Africa in Room 284
This month we are celebrating Africa. Many parents shared their experiences in the classroom. Last week Caleb Abebe’s parents visited our Room 284. They presented slides about their country, Ethiopia. Our children learned many interesting facts about Ethiopia - significance of their flag, culture and life in Ethiopia. His mom made traditional food “Injera” for the children to try. Yyug’s mom came to the class this week. She presented a slideshow on their visit to Tanzania. Children were thrilled to see animals in a natural safari. A week ago Kathy and Ed, Walter’s grandparents had shared their experiences about Africa. We sincerely thank to all the parents and grandparents for sharing their rich experiences with our children.

Parent Ed
Erin Gutierrez, Montessori Resource Teacher, did an amazing job again helping families to understanding the Montessori method and how to bring it into our everyday lives! If you were not able to join us this morning, we have attached the handouts that were used. Try to join us the next time...we really have a nice time!

Mind Matters
A huge thank you for all of the families who signed up to participate in this series. Unfortunately, we do not have enough room for everyone. Be assured you will be first on the list for next year! The Graham and Parks School as well as the Fletcher Maynard School are having the same program if you are interested in attending at these schools. Contact Mary Frawley for more details at [email protected].
