Annual Multicultural
Pot Luck Dinner/Dance
The Multicultural Potluck – one of the school's most popular events of the year – will be held on February 12 from 6-7:30PM. This year we're going to collect recipes and see if we can put together a Cambridgeport Cookbook! Prepare some food from one of your family's countries of origin to share with the rest of the school. Please include a card with the name of your dish, the nationality, and its main ingredients for the table, and a copy of the recipe (with the source if it's from your family or a particular cookbook, etc.). Keep an eye out for cards to use by the school entrance, or use your own. In addition to the amazing food, there will be entertainment and dancing!

Reflections from Gail Nunez, Our School Counselor & Guest Writer
Each time I sit with a student, I ask myself, what does she or he need to unveil her or his inner stardom. Rather than just thinking academically, it is my hope that the many facets of a child's life come together to formulate, highlight, and demonstrate his or her intellectual, social, and spiritual capacity. North Cambridge Family Opera is looking for adults and kids 5 and older to sing A Little Light Music: Songs of Electromagnetic Radiation as part of the Cambridge Science Festival in April. A Little Light Music is a collection of kid-friendly songs about light and other parts of the electromagnetic spectrum by several different composers. The topics are as diverse as Northern Lights, radio waves, different parts of the spectrum seen by different animals, and sunburn. We will also sing a medley of songs composed last year by Cambridge Public School students as part of the songwriting workshops led by David Haines. Rehearsals will include a brief, accessible discussion of the science behind the songs. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6-7:30PM at the Peabody School. The performances are April 19, 25, and 26. This is a great activity for parents and kids to enjoy together. Come check it out at the rehearsal on Feb. 4!
Science on Saturday – The next Science on Saturday K-12 presentation on the MIT’s Kresge Auditorium (48 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge) will be Physics on February 7th at 10AM. This show will be presented by MIT’s Women of Physics, who will show the public a number of the MIT Physics Department’s large-scale, on-stage demonstrations (of Newton’s laws, electricity, magnetism, and other principles) that are usually only seen by MIT students. Volunteers from the audience will be able to assist with the on-stage demonstrations. After the stage show, there will be many different hands-on activity tables where kids can do their own experiments with various aspects of physics. All of our Science on Saturday events are free and open to all elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as their parents and teachers. Edgerton.mit.edu/scienceonsaturday
