book fair

Book Fair Thank You!!
This year’s Book Fair was our most successful one yet. We went over $10,000 in book sales which means a bonus for us!! I love seeing how excited the kids get as they make their choices for books they will get to “keep forever”. Thank you to everyone who bought wonderful books for our students, and their friends & family, and especially for the teachers. Friends of Tobin generously offered to pay for few remaining books in the Wishlist bags. Give yourself a pat on the back for the great support you are showing our teachers.

Special thanks to Carrie Voiland, Brandy and Alexander Danner, John Little, Ann Kao, Erik Thoresen, Irene Cho, Erin Linthicum, Kristin Michaud, Cristina Ullmann, Fadumo Egal, Rebecca McLaughlin, Caroline Stowell, Jess Lounsbury, and Yodit Amlesom! I couldn’t have done it without you.

–Ms. Jessica, School Librarian

Classroom Highlight: Room 290
What is a favorite project you worked on this year?
The students in RM 290 have been working on lots of different, interesting projects this year! One of their favorite activities was a science experiment where the students had to work together to design a glove with many different materials that would help them survive in the Arctic (like a polar bear, penguin, or seal)! They tested their design by dipping their hands in ice cold water with one hand having the glove on and the other having nothing on! We also played a class-wide game of soccer to learn more about the culture of South America for our cultural studies. The teams ended in a tie! The students have recently enjoyed celebrating Valentine's Day and the 100th day of school together!

Tell us a few everyday examples of kindness shown by the students.
We use the kindness jar in our class for the students to write down different kind acts they see their peers doing. The children also help each other on a daily basis within the class! They help each other do different works, they help take care of the classroom, and the older students are always setting a great example for the rest of the class! Kindness is embedded into our everyday routine!

How do you and the students start and end your day?
Every morning the students enter the classroom and sign in by washing their hands and writing down how they are getting home at the end of the day. They then grab a book and read on the rug until the morning announcements. We end our day by cleaning up the works and cleaning up the classroom. Each student has a different job to help make sure the classroom is ready for the next day!
