Reflections from Katie, the Principal
Hopefully by now you all have received your child’s progress report. Over the past few months, we have spent a great deal of time in meetings with staff discussing the habits of mind. One of our early realizations was that the habits of mind documents would likely lead to some shifts in teaching practices. Read more >>

You're Invited to Our Multicultural
Pot Luck Dinner/Dance!

The Annual Multicultural Potluck, one of the school's most popular events of the year, has been postponed to Thursday, March 12 from 6– 7:30PM. This year we're going to collect recipes and see if we can put together a Cambridgeport Cookbook! Prepare some food from one of your family's countries of origin to share with the rest of the school. Please include a card with the name of your dish, the nationality, and its main ingredients for the table, and a copy of the recipe (with the source if it's from your family or a particular cookbook, etc.). Keep an eye out for cards to use by the school entrance, or use your own. In addition to the amazing food, there will be entertainment and dancing!

Performing Arts at Cambridgeport

For the second year, the Cambridgeport School has a grant for a Performing Arts Program, in order to give all students the opportunity to see or perform a play or concert. On February 6, 2015, despite all the snow on the ground and the bitter cold, the second grade went to see the play "Stuart Little" at the YMCA Theatre in Central Square. This was a musical, put on by the Boston Children's Theatre. The students had read the book prior to going to the show, and they met with the actor who played Stuart after the show. They had lots of questions for him! Also on February 6, 2015, the fifth grade went to the Symphony Hall in Boston, to see the Boston Symphony Youth Concert. Despite the bad weather, the hall was full of fourth, fifth and sixth graders from all over the Boston area. Both programs were very successful. Every class will get to attend a performing arts program. Next up, the third and fourth grades will begin rehearsals for plays with the Underground Railway Theatre in Central Square. It should be a very exciting Spring!

WIC Program

Hello,

I would like to introduce myself. I am the new Director of the Cambridge/Somerville WIC Program. I am writing to introduce you to or perhaps reintroduce you to WIC. WIC is a health and nutrition program that can benefit many families living in Cambridge. WIC provides food and nutrition services to pregnant women, infants and children under 5 who meet income guidelines. Many families may be eligible but don’t realize they are eligible-especially working families. I’m asking your help in getting the word out to families about WIC and, if you learn of a family that may be in need of our services, please have them call our office at 617-665-3750. Our staff is bilingual and bicultural. More information can be found on our website
