Greetings from the Family Liaison

The March snowstorms are doing crazy things to our schedule! Parent/teacher conferences are being rescheduled. We are currently up to four snowdays, making the last day June 22nd. Although it seems far away, it’s definitely time to plan for the summer! If you are still looking for camp options you should search on Findit Cambridge.

We have a lot of great activities coming up in the spring. Keep an eye out for our spring concerts, the Family Fun Fest, our International Potluck, and Kennedy Community School’s Spring Fling. Spring is a really fun time at school! Keep watching for emails and flyers.

Second Grade Service Learning
Second graders in Room 203 and 204 are in the middle of a service learning project with help from volunteers from PegaSystems. Volunteers are coming once a week to assist as the second graders move through the many stages of community service: brainstorming needs in their community, planning how to help, executing the project, and then reflecting on and sharing their work. Curbside Compost

Curbside Compost Goes Citywide April 2!
Did you know that Cambridge has had a pilot curbside compost program for 1 to 12 unit buildings with City trash service in North Cambridge? And that most participants cut their trash by 35%?

By composting we can help the City cut waste and put our food scraps to work making clean energy and fertilizer.

Tell your friends, family, and neighbors to grab their new bins and start composting!

Volunteer to help move bins off the curb!
Saturday April 7 | 1 - 3:30PM, meet in front of City Hall

Go Green Challenge
The Go Green Challenge is a competition run each year in Cambridge Public Schools in partnership with the Department of Public Works (DPW). Every elementary classroom teacher receives a sheet to fill out with his or her students, indicating green actions they are taking together, such as recycling, having a plant in the classroom, or printing double-sided.

ART NOTES
I received two persuasive letters from 1st graders stating the school looked dreary. Students posed a solution, they thought adding flowers could brighten the halls. I shared the notes to each 1st grade class and we agreed, so we pulled up our sleeves and solved the problem by painting large still lives of flowers. They are are on display.
