Reflections from Katie
In this era of high-stakes testing, and a lot of political swirl about new tests coming our way, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what assessment means at Cambridgeport. The word assessment comes from the Latin root assidere, meaning to sit beside. This is certainly when we do the best assessing; we sit with a child and work to understand how they are thinking through a problem. We listen carefully as a child reads a passage, taking copious notes about the kinds of mistakes he or she is making. We watch and ask questions as a child solves a math problem. These moments of ‘sitting beside’ allow us to go deeper with children.

Who Are the People
in Your Neighborhood?
Meet Anaca Hodges, Cambridgeport 5th Grader!
How long have you been at Cambridgeport? I have been here 3 years, well, going on 3 years. I was at school in Everett before I came here.
What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done? I think going to Farm School. I helped out at the farm cooking and cleaning. I learned about team work and making new friendships. I actually went in the chicken house and collected eggs!
What is your favorite book? Oh! Wonder!! I think it was very heart warming and I learned how the world can sometimes be so cruel, and how everyone is not perfect and to not change for anybody else.
What is your dream job? Being a veterinarian because I really care about animals. Every day animals are getting hurt and I would like to try and save their lives.
If you could be an animal what would you be? A pink flamingo because I like their shade of pink. I think they are really unique animals and I think it is cool how they are pink from eating shrimp, and how their legs are like pencils.
Multicultural Potluck was a Blast!
