TED Baldwin Cares: Ideas Worth Spreading
The Baldwin 5th graders each picked a topic they were passionate about and prepared a TED talk. Their TED (which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design) talks included scientific, cultural, and academic topics. Some of their "ideas worth spreading" included Upcycling, Legos, Pros of Video Gaming, Being Nice, Responsibility, the Stock Market, and Cryptozoology. Read more >>

Read to Feed

Read to Feed
Ms. Della Calce's kindergarten class was interested in learning about food people eat in different places. After learning more about food people eat and learning about the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, they discovered everyone has the right to eat healthy food. They read Beatrice’s Goat by Page McBrier and realized some people do not have healthy food to eat. What did they do? Find out >>

STEM

Why STEM?
The teachers in grade 5 have been integrating STEM into their classroom. From Nature and Me, a hands on curriculum about nature, the students were interested in composting. Integrating STEM, they designed a worm bin. It started with a math lesson using scale to determine how to design a compost bin. They used estimating to determine the cost. They created a 3-D design from sculpting clay.

A Glimpse into the Library: 2nd and 3rd Grade Reading Challenge
Ms. Kugel is creating a reading challenge for students in grades 2 and 3. It is set up similar to the Massachusetts Children's Book Awards that 4th and 5th grade students participate in. Each student will set a goal for themself. In June, they will then be able to vote on their favorite book for "The Baldwin Book Award".

Dance

Dance in the Schools

During the month of March several of our classrooms will be working with Dance in the Schools. The program integrates movement and dance with the academic curriculum. Movement sessions are designed around the choice of four standards-based themes: Literacy, Math/Music, Physical Education/Sensory, and Science. Dance in the Schools develops children’s ability to focus in school, think creatively and cooperatively, innovate and problem-solve, while being physically active. We are very excited to show you the results. Stay Tuned!

More School News...

News from the Nurse
Just a few more weeks until spring! Congratulations on surviving this crazy winter. This is a reminder to provide the school nurse with a copy of your child's annual physical examination with each annual visit. This is usually 1-2 page document containing immunizations, vital signs, weight, illnesses, and allergies and often says "for school/camp/sports" on the heading. You can bring a copy to school or have it faxed to the school at 617.349.6893. The nurse will need a recent physical for all 5th grade students before they begin middle school at Rindge Avenue Upper Campus. Kathryn Bonfiglio, RN, School Nurse, 617.349.6746.
