Day of Service

King Open Day Of Service
Did you notice how great the outside of King Open looked after our first Day of Service on December 2nd? We had a great turnout of parents, students, and staff come out and remove trash, rake leaves, weed, and clean up our trees and surrounding areas. Our Department of Public Works supported us with all the tools we needed to accomplish this much needed task. There was even a snowflake making station where kids made beautiful snowflakes to decorate the inside of the building! We had many compliments from surrounding community members who were impressed and thankful that King Open took the time to make our grounds a more welcoming environment for all! Read on >>

Staff Updates
Kelley Mowers (KO Art Teacher) has been on leave since February and has recently extended her leave until the close of the 2017-2018 school year. Bethany Williams has been teaching art in Kelley’s absence and has agreed to continue till the last day of school. Kelley possess a M.Ed. in Elementary Education and has Massachusetts teaching certification. Bethany also has experience teaching art. As a reminder Kathleen Kolman (KO Music Teacher), is also on leave. Heather Fishman has been teaching music classes and will also continue until the close of the school year. Both Kelley and Kathleen are expected to return in September, 2018.
Benjamin Pickard (Building Substitute and Recess Play Coach) will be moving on to a new position. His last day is Friday, April 27th. We are currently looking for his replacement and will keep the community updated. Coach Ben will be missed.

Maria Moniz (½ Ola Paraprofessional) has decided to retire after more than 30 years of service to the students and families of this community. Lorraine Paulino (Special Education Support Paraprofessional) will also be retiring at the close of the current school year after more than 15 years of service. Both have been a tremendous asset to the school community and will be missed. We will updated the community when these positions are filled.

Cape Cod Sea Camps
It’s coming! It’s June 6 and 7! It’s the 3/4 King Open annual trip to Cape Cod Sea Camps in Brewster, MA! We’re getting ready, the students are excited, and we’re going to have a great time again this year. We’ll go swimming, collect and observe sea creatures in our temporary aquariums, play tennis, basketball and hockey, sing around the campfire and eat s’mores. Remember that your Field Trip Permission Form and your mandatory CORI (if you are chaperoning and you haven’t done one this year yet) are due with the money ASAP. It’s $80 per person. Donations are gratefully appreciated. See you by the sea!

Carnival

Social Studies

Grade 4 Family Breakfast:
Rooms 123 & 125

On Tuesday April 10, the fourth grade classrooms held their second family breakfast. At this breakfast we celebrated the work the students had done with completing their Social Studies project. The students were asked to research monuments and national parks. Following their research students were asked to recreate the area that they had studied or to create something new inspired by what they had researched. The students were very excited to see what everyone had been working on completing. It was clear on the morning of the breakfast they were proud of their work and excited to share it with their families.
