Staff Appreciation

Staff Appreciation Luncheon
One of the many highlights of the year for our community is the Staff Appreciation Lunch. This year it takes place on Wednesday, May 16. Please help us celebrate our hardworking teachers and staff members however you can:

  1. Bring in a dish of food (or send it in with your child) the morning of May 16 or anytime before 12:30PM. View the category for your child’s grade.

  2. Volunteer to help the Parent Caregiver Organization receive the food, store it until lunchtime, set it up, and serve it (morning and afternoon shifts available).

To volunteer your help that day or if you have questions, please contact Monica Velgos by email or call 617.650.7887.
Thanks, parents, for all YOU do for the school, too!

J. Rhodes

Author Jewell Parker Rhodes Visits CSUS
Cambridge Street Upper School was thrilled to welcome best-selling author of adult and children’s books, Jewell Parker Rhodes, as a guest speaker. Dr. Rhodes has received many awards, including a Coretta Scott King Honor Award for her novel, Ninth Ward.

This inspiring author gave a presentation to the eighth grade students about her newest novel, Ghost Boys, in which a twelve-year-old boy is shot by a police officer because he is playing with a toy gun. Gathered in an intimate conversation with the students, Dr. Rhodes spoke about historical and contemporary racial injustices, and the power our students have to change the world. The students were entranced by her words and her call for action. Read on >>

Orienteering

Make Money Learning to Orienteer
Calling all 14-year-olds! Navigation Games is a non-profit dedicated to teaching kids the sport of orienteering. We will be a Mayor's Program worksite, meaning that you can make money this summer learning how to orienteer, and teaching map navigation through games to children at summer camps. Turn in the application by May 4th, and be sure to put "Navigation Games" as your requested work site!

The CSUS community is invited to spectate at the first inter-school orienteering races after school on June 5th at Danehy Park. Orienteering is a map navigation race. There will be a demonstration course in case you'd like to try it yourself. Come cheer on our athletes!
