Reflections from Katie
As the days are getting longer, the warm weather, blooming flowers, bright green leaves on trees, baseball, bike rides all lure us out of our homes to enjoy. The increased physical activity that all of us seem to get at this time of year is excellent for both our physical and emotional well-being. There is one downside to these longer days and beautiful weather, though. It is much harder to get our children to sleep. By the time the sun goes down, the final inning has been played or the BBQs last embers have died out, it is late! And it’s not very many hours until the sun is up again, and school is beckoning. Despite these challenges, it is incredibly important that our children continue to get solid amounts of sleep every night.

Who Are the People
in Your Neighborhood?
Meet Kristen Emack, Cambridgeport Family Liaison
How long have you been at Cambridgeport?
I became at C’port parent in 1999, when my first born started Kindergarten! I began working here as an assistant teacher 13 years ago and moved into the liaison position two years ago.
What is your favorite movie?
Oh! I love movies and have a more than a few favorites. I fell in love with It’s a Wonderful Life at age 8 when I stayed up late and watched it by myself on my parent’s small black and white TV. I have watched The Lord of the Rings trilogy way too many times to admit here, and Do The Right Thing by Spike Lee, and Smoke Signals by Sherman Alexia are favorite films.
I love female leads, especially in family films like Corrina Corrina, an under recognized gem about a mixed race family in the 1950’s. Howl’s Moving Castle, Whale Rider, Akela and the Bee, The Secret of Roan Inish, and Princess Mononoke are also favs.
What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
I parachuted out of a plane at 3,500 feet...on a dare. But parenting is a daily adventure, with its own kind of thrilling free fall, and I would say that is my biggest adventure.
If you could be an animal what kind would you be?
A wolf who lived in some place green and wild and mossy, or a blue whale. They are so grand and mysterious and nurturing, and communicate through song. That would be amazing.
