Spring Reading Challenge!
Bingo Reading Challenge has sparked a renewed interest in free choice reading. Kids are looking at books in new ways and evaluating what kind of books they are reading. This is great! A few tips and reminders for this challenge:

  • This is not a race! The challenge runs until the beginning of June, so there is plenty of time. Kids should not feel they should rush through books – instead, enjoy them as they read.
  • Just because a book meets one of the criteria doesn’t mean it is the right book. Help your kids figure out if they need to just try a little longer to see if they will get engaged in this book (we all know some books take longer to get “into”) or they should let it go and try another. It is OK to abandon a “boring” book.
  • Award winning books can be found here.

Parent Ed Recap: Boosting Our Children's Understanding in Reading
Did you know we have two wonderful Literacy Interns from Harvard? They are Deana Brown and McClellan Walcott (no relation to our own Ms. Walcott) and have been working with our Tobin students under the direction of Jaime Frost, our Literacy Coach, all year. On April 1st, they presented a workshop to parents on how to expand reading comprehension with our students at home. Hear more >>

bunnies!

Jenny the Juggler brought two smart and adorable bunnies, Fluff and Nutter, for her presentation in room 283.

Ari and Ari

Ari Harris and Ari Diaz Navarro came to school on April Fools Day and entertained many of the students by playing the cello and violin in the cafeteria during breakfast. We suspect the surprise was that Ari and Ari are really talented musicians! Thanks you for starting our day with beautiful music!

Anthony LaRosa, who was a Kindergartner in room 283 last school year, is reading to Ellis and Mockles. Anthony and his classmates from Ms. Zotz' classroom come to room 283 as a part of the successful Reading Buddies program.
