bunnies in the classroom

Bunnies in the Classroom!
ClaraJane, a LE student and a former Room 283 Kindergartner, and her Mom Jenny O. brought two mischievous bunnies to Room 283. This special visit was also made possible by Lochlan's parents who bought the bunny visit at the recent auction. Everybody liked learning about the bunnies, feeding them with fresh clover, and petting them gently. We would like to thank Jenny O. and Lochlan's parents for such a wonderful event!

Summer is Just Around the Corner
We are all thinking about ways to encourage kids to keep reading when they are outside of school. Research tells us that the more kids read, the better they do! Stay tuned for information about our exciting summer reading book choices...In the meantime, check out this great little article full of fun tips for stashing books in some surprising places in your home so that kids will pick them up and read at all times of the day. Spoiler alert! Bookcases are so last year!

Little Red Riding Hood
Mockles and Anandi did an amazing job reading "Little Red Riding Hood" to an audience of family and friends last week. A big "Thank You" to Miss Linda (Substitute for Meghan Watt) who helped the children bring the story to life! Thank you, Miss Linda. It was a pleasure to have you with us these past several months.

Survey

Got Feedback?
We can't wait to hear from you! CPS is conducting our first annual Family Survey, and we hope to hear from you by June 14th!

If you haven't already received an email or text message, or it's gotten lost in your inbox, check out our Family Survey page and click on your family's school(s). You can also find questions & answers about the survey, view our outreach plan, and even make comments on ways to improve our outreach strategy.

For those who don't have a good way to take it from home, watch for survey-taking stations at events at school. We value your feedback and hope to learn and improve based on what we hear from you.

The survey is part of our continuous improvement efforts, a key component of our CPS District Plan.

Clock

Not Enough Hours in the Day?
As part of our ongoing efforts to learn and improve as a school district, Cambridge Public Schools has identified a frequently-cited obstacle: time.

Please join with us in discussing the recommendations of a joint report from the Cambridge Education Association and CPS Administration, which proposes extending the length of the school day.

Beginning with these school-based conversations, and continuing with a broad community process in Fall 2018, the Superintendent will develop recommendations for any potential changes by Winter 2018-19.

Learn more about this process on the CPS website. Upcoming discussions are listed below, many of which have been scheduled for a regular meeting of School Councils. There will be more opportunities to contribute your thoughts and ideas over the coming months. Or, feel free to email us.

BOOKS NEEDED FOR THE END OF THE YEAR
Time to clean out the bookcases! Please send in any children’s books that you no longer want.
Books are now being accepted until the Swap starts on June 11th. Drop off books in the office or bring them up to the library. Library classes will participate during the week of June 11-14. All students (regardless of whether they bring in any books) will pick out a book to take home and keep. You may send in as many as you want. Books should be appropriate for four year olds through 6th grade. Any questions? Email Jessica Gillis or call 617.349.6600 x333.
